THE FIELD BEHIND MY COUSIN' S HOUSE

We sat upon the tall pole fence
Two kids resting from play
And watched the sun creep towards the hill
Retiring from the day
The lazy golden beams of light
Retreated from the field
Shadows crept across the vales
And day to dusk did yield
A sweet fragrance filled the twilight
As the wind kindly blew
Athwart the heavy heads of wheat
Laden with seed and dew
Silent, we sat there for some time
Inhaling that pure breeze
Sorrowed that when we left the field
That lovely scent would cease
